Course Description

The role of nutrition and hydration is very important to older persons’ health. Good management helps in preventing diseases. Therefore it is important to understand and assess the person’s state of nutrition, the preferred caloric intake order to inform what the medical team will provide for them. This module will teach the student to objectively assess a person’s state of nutrition using evaluation tools. It will teach how to detect risk for malnutrition and how to prevent it. Most importantly, it will teach the student how to prepare a nutrition plan for different malnutrition states, including the use of supplemental feeding and medical foods.
