Course Description

This module broadens the student's knowledge about the demographic shift of the human population.  It will help the student understand the economic, social and cultural impact of aging on society and vice versa, including long term care insurance, relevant laws or policies on elderly care in various countries. Aside social from the effects of aging, this module will also make the student understand the biological effects of aging on the body by examining the changes in the various organs and systems with the aging process. The student learns how the biologic changes affect the elderly person’s life and how these changes influence the care that the student needs to provide to them. This module is also in preparation for the subsequent module on geriatric assessment.
